Submitted by Amanda Henson Harter and edited by Sherry Matney

Nell Cadenhead Murphyn (far right) Nell Cadenhead Murphyn (far right) This week Belle sponsor Amanda Harter is featuring Nell Cadenhead Murphy, Faye Sanders Cadenhead, Dana Morris, and Susan Cadenhead Shelton, all family members.

Nell Cadenhead is the daughter of the late C.L. and Maggie Jo Cadenhead of Buffalo. She was a charter Belle in 1958 under Tee Martin Rhyne and was a Belle from 1958 to 1962. Nell was a drummer, line member, and a twirler her sophomore year. Her favorite Belle memories are of the bus rides and all the singing that the group did.

Faye Sanders Cadenhead was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Sanders of Buffalo. Faye was a Belle and cheerleader under Rhyne From 1960 to 1964 and was later the Belle director from 1970 -71 while Paulette Bing was on maternity leave. Then Faye quit teaching to raise her family. She returned to teaching in 1985 taking over the cheerleaders in 1986, and serving as cheerleader sponsor until 1990.

Susan Cadenhead Shelton Susan Cadenhead Shelton Dana Morris is the daughter of Nell Cadenhead Murphy of Buffalo and the late Dan Morris of Teague, TX. She became the Belle director in 1986 and was the longest running Belle director when she resigned her duties in 2008. Dana said that those 22 years as director was one of the best experiences of her life. Dana said, "those girls are my children and I was a mother hen to them. I tried to teach them poise, class, hard work, and discipline. My favorite Belle memories are long nights in the gym working hard on dances." Dana experienced many memorable moments during her 22 years as director. The infamous swim ring disaster, "the pretty woman" routine that became known as "muddy woman" both stand out clearly. Dana also remembers tying hats right before half time when they announced that they has just rescued little baby Jessica McClure from the well in Midland, Texas. Dana Morris was asked to announce for the 60th Bion Belle Drill team the night of Homecoming. Her voice was a welcoming and familiar sound coming from the press box.

Faye Sanders Cadenhead Faye Sanders Cadenhead Susan Cadenhead Shelton is the daughter of the late Charles and Faye Cadenhead of Buffalo. She was a Belle her freshman year, 1987-88, under her cousin Dana Morris as the director. Susan was a cheerleader the next year. Her favorite dance was "La Bamba".
