Contributed photo Maureen Chegin, Past Regent of Spring Creek Chapter, currently State Committee Chair of “Project Patriot” presented an informative program for the Colonel George Dashiell Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, meeting in Woody’s Smokehouse, Centerville. This Committee supports America’s service members in current conflicts abroad and their families. Individual members and chapters are encouraged to support the men and women serving in uniform in any way appropriate. Activities could range from sending care packages to relatives of chapter members or supporting local Reserve/ National Guard units and their families. Items can be provided to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, The Wounded Transition Brigade, the Warrior and Family Support Center in San Antonio, Camp Atterbury, Indiana, a 1A Mobilization Training Center and to Chaplains in Afghanistan. Ms Chegin is from a military family and is certainly experienced in knowing the needs of active service men and women, so her knowledge and interest has been life-long. Her committee coordinates the collection of donations from Texas chapters, and distributes them to the correct facility.

In the business session, members noted that they will be volunteering at the Veterans’ Appreciation Day to be on October 21 in the Leon County Expo Center. It also was announced that chapter member Jan Reeder had presented a program to the above mentioned Spring Creek Chapter in The Woodlands. Her topic was “How to Research Your Spanish Ancestor”. One more event members will be attending is the annual National Defense Luncheon for the District which will be held in April Sound Country Club on November 4.

The next Chapter Meeting will be December 7. Ms Virginia Brown from Fort Worth will be giving the program about Veterans’ Stories, taken from Oral Histories.
