Bison Belle Director Amanda Harter has featured a former Belle each week leading up to the organization’s 60th reunion. This week the Former Belle of the Week is Reda Barnett Robinson, daughter of Reuben and Vera Barnett.

Robinson participated in Belles from 7th grade through 12th grade in the 1960’s, when Junior High girls were allowed to participate in the Belles. She was a line member for the 1963-64 and the 1964-65 school years, a twirler (officer) 1965-66 and again in 1966-67. She was a Drum Major (Belle Captain) for both the 1967- 68 and 1968-69 school years. Reda was a Belle under the leadership of Drum Majors Becky Hardy, Mary Jane Burroughs, Tana Van Wey, and Linda Magouirk. She danced under Belle Directors Tee Rhyne and Paulette Bing.

Robinson said she always enjoyed the special invitation parade performances. “Those performances gave all of us the opportunity to travel to new places, meet new people and be part of a big event.

Reda served as Belle Director 1976-77 to 1984. She said there were too many memorable moments to list, but one special memory was accompanying the 1979- 80 Belles to perform pregame at a Cowboys game in Texas Stadium.

When asked what she learned as a Belle & Director Robinson said, “Nothing will get you from start to finish except hard, focused, diligent work. I was always so proud of the work ethic of “MY” Belles and the PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE….one more time, five six seven, eight, dance.”
