Bison declaw Normangee Panthers

420 yards total offense
By Gene Pruitt

The Normangee Panthers came to town last Friday night and brought a high powered offense along with a defense that had their sights on a victory in Buffalo. The Bison had a different idea and after a hard fought game the Bison prevailed 48-20.

Colton Green teamed up with Hector Dominguez for 303 yards rushing and five touchdowns to help seal the victory. The Bison traded scores with the Panthers throughout the first half and held a 27-20 advantage at the break. Normangee got on the board first with an 18 yard pass to the end zone. The PAT failed but the Panthers were up with only a little less than four minutes off the clock. Buffalo and Normangee put together short drives but were forced to punt. Chase Thompson came up with a big sack on third down and forced a punt. The Bison took control from the Panther 45 where Hector Dominguez had 9 and Green had 8 plus a big penalty then Green hit Dirk Kilgore for 13 yards and the TD. The PAT also was no good but Buffalo had tied the game 6-6.

The Panthers were again successful in moving the ball but Benito Rivas had a sack and Thompson had a sack to turn the ball over to the Bison offense. The teams made the final four minutes exciting when the Panthers scored to go ahead. Then with less than a minute off the clock Dominguez went in from 13 out and added the PAT to take the lead 13-12. On the next Panther possession Dirk Kilgore had a big interception and return to the 11 yard line. A Normangee penalty moved the ball to the 5 where Dominguez went in for 5 yards of his 121 and his second touchdown. This made it 20-12 and about 2 and ½ minutes to play in the half.

You would think the scoring was over for the half but it was far from the end. Thompson had another sack at the Bison 48, one of his six tackles for a loss and 9 tackles for the night but the Panthers took this drive to pay dirt and add a two point conversion to tie the score at 20-20 with :45 to play in the half. The Bison had :37 seconds to go after the kick off where Green ran for 5 yards then hit Kilgore for 29 yards but a penalty brought it back but the whole fiasco ended with the Bison at the 19 where Green again hit Kilgore for 19 yards on a perfect pass and catch for the score with :06 to go. Dominguez added the PAT to make it 27-20 Bison at the half.

It seemed this took it all out of the Panthers, Green went on a 42 yard romp for a TD on the first possession of the second half. Green had 182 yards on 17 carries for the game. Blayne Stauffer had a sack on the next series, he also had 9 tackles for the night, three for loss. The Bison went on to score in the third quarter on a Green 6 yard run and in the final period on a 21 yard carry from his quarterback position.

Besides Green 17 for 182 and Dominguez 13 for 121 Kilgore had 29 yards on 2 carries and a touchdown. James Rodell had 2 for 22 yards and Phillips and Randle had 1 for 4 yards each. Kilgore came in just behind Thompson and Stauffer, each with 9 tackles, with 8 tackles, one for a loss, and one interception, Garcia had 6 tackles of which 4 were for a loss and one sack, Ryan Rath had 6 tackles, Marshall Jonas had 6 tackles with one for a loss, and Garcia, Porras, and Rodell each had 6 tackles. Green was 6 for 12 for 58 yards and no interceptions while Kilgore caught 3 for 47 and a TD, Stauffer was 2 for 8, and Rodell was 1 for 3. The Bison had 420 yards of total offense while giving up 234 yards of which there was only 9 yards in the second half. The Bison will be traveling to Grapeland this Friday for a 7:30 game and a shot at 3-0 so come out and do your part and enjoy the fun.
