City of Oakwood has brand new water well
     The City of Oakwood started looking at putting in a new water well just over a year ago when their main well went down and they were forced to turn to their back-up well to take on the job of supplying water to its residents. Although Oakwood was in much better shape than many other towns during the harsh drought conditions, the Council Members and Mayor Vicki Stroud had concerns.

Adding Whitney Hobbs equals a win for Oakwood
     After a rocky year in Math last year due to the heart attack and subsequent surgery of the only Junior High/High School Math teacher at Oakwood, OISD is adding a new face to its roster and looking to her to get them back on solid ground. Whitney Hicks has been teaching Math classes for eleven years.

Stacy Doyle, prepping for Oakwood Pre-K
     Oakwood Elementary welcomes Stacy Doyle as the new Pre-K teacher. After obtaining her BA at Texas A&M Commerce, Doyle taught second grade for eight years. She comes to us from Paris ISD. She decided to relocate to Buffalo with her three sons, Caleb(13), Ethan(12), and Caanan(8), to be closer to her family. She has family in Buffalo, Flo, and other parts of Leon County.

     AUSTIN –– The Texas average rig count as of Aug. 16 was 837, representing about 49 percent of all active land rigs in the United States. In the last 12 months, total Texas reported production was 583 million barrels of oil and 7.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Flo VFD hosts luncheon
     Leon County CERT and Leon County Hams will join Flo Volunteer Fire Department this coming September 7th for a hamburger lunch in Flo at the junction of FM 831 and FM 1511 at the new building site.  Hamburgers, chips and drinks will be served from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. along with a bake sale.

     Buckmasters is about much more than deer hunting and steak dinners. It’s about giving back to Leon County though scholarships, Soldiers Overseas Ministries, police and fire departments and numerous youth programs.  Leon County Buckmasters American Deer Foundation is about to celebrate its 10th annual fundraiser banquet.

New teachers at Centerville ISD
     The new school year is full of excitement for both students and faculty as Centerville welcomes several new teachers to its line-up.   Jennifer Jeitz will be the Jr/High School Counselor. She and her husband, Jason, have two children, Kirsten and Kasen.  Jeremy Hammock comes to Centerville from Sam Houston State University. He will teach 7th grade Texas History and coach.
