The American Red Cross invities all Leon County residents to a free Emergency Preparation Seminar from 10 am-12 pm, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Buffalo Civic Center. Speakers at the seminar will include Bob Hickman, Leon County Emergency Management Coordinator, Rickey Boyd, American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Captain and Jennifer Wiginton, American Red Cross Disaster Services Specialist. Informational handouts will be given to attendees, and door prizes will be available.

The Mid-East Texas Groundwater Conservation District will be conducting a Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and will be located at the Leon County Courthouse, Annex II, 3rd Floor Meeting Room in Centerville. Friends of Fort Boggy State Park annual meeting and chili supper. Monday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m. Centerville Elementary school cafeteria. Everyone is invited. Come out and join in keeping our park alive.

Technology For All is offering FREE Computer Classes every Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Public Library. The classes being offered during the month of January are: “Email Basic” and “Microsoft Word” (learning how cut, copy, paste and develop documents and flyers for home or office needs). The newly-formed OAKWOOD COMMUNITY HELPING HANDS CLUB has established that their meetings will be on the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. in the annex of the Methodist Church in Oakwood. Lone Star Patriots of Leon County’s monthly meeting is held on the 4th Thursday.

Special Prayer Meeting - Each Thursday 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Hiway Tabernacle Church of God, Highway 75 South.

Flo Volunteer Fire Department meets the first Thursday of each month for their monthly business meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Oakwood now has an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting place. The old Henry Chapel Church, on the corner of Moody and River Bend Road (1 block off Main St. before the 542/831 split), now houses AA meetings Monday- Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m..
