Preston Polk

Funeral services for Preston Earl Polk, age 51, of Dallas, and formerly Centerville, were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Two-Mile First United Methodist Church in Leona, Texas. Rev. C.D. Evans and Pastor Connie Blackshear officiated at the service and interment followed in the Two-Mile Paradise Cemetery.

Preston Earl Polk was born on February 12, 1959 in Leona, Texas to James A. & Pauline (Jones) Polk. He was one of fourteen children. He was raised in the Two-Mile Community of Leona and attended the Leona School until it closed. He then attended the Centerville Community High School where he excelled in football and basketball. Mr. Polk later graduated from the Centerville Community High School and worked as a forklift operator in Dallas. He attended Antioch Baptist Church in Dallas and was a member of the “Sons of Zion,” a spiritual singing group. Mr. Polk was also a former deacon of the New Revelation Baptist Church in Dallas under Rev. Johnson Pastor.

Mr. Polk was the family backbone. He was always available to lend a “helping hand,” and enjoyed helping people in his community. He passed away on May 16, 2010 in Tyler, Texas. Mr. Polk is preceded in death by his parents, the late James A. & Pauline (Jones) Polk and by an infant brother, Redell Polk.

Survivors include a daughter, Aineshia Washington of Duncanville, Texas; brothers, James Polk, Jr. & wife, Joainer of Dallas, Texas, J.C. Polk of Dallas, Texas, Clyde Polk of DeSoto, Texas, Paul Polk of Dallas, Texas, Matthew Polk of Dallas, Texas, Rev. Daniel Polk & wife, Theressia of Dallas, Texas, Bernard Polk of Garland, Texas and Rev. Carl Polk of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Errma Jean Jefferson of Washington, D.C., Gloria Polk of Dallas, Texas, Eva Polk of Teague, Texas and Patricia Brown of Dallas, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Joe Lee Hopkins, Johnny Polk, Andre Polk, T.R. Polk, Charlie Polk, Don Craig, LaPaul Polk and Larry Reed.

Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.
