Lady Bison drop district opener to Westwood

Sherry’s Shots The Lady Bison had a rough week as they dropped matches to Normangee and Westwood. The match against the Westwood Lady Panthers was the district opener for both teams. On September 4th the Lady Bison traveled to Normangee for their final match before district play began on September 7th against Westwood. The Lady Bison lost to the Normangee Lady Panthers 10-25, 22-25 and 11-25. In the first set against Normangee the Lady Bison fell behind early 5-21 and lost 5-25. Libero McKenzie Simpson was solid defensively as she returned several hard hits from her back row position. McKenzie Ryder scored points off her serve. The Lady Bison bounced back in the second set and had a good chance of winning with the set tied at 21 before the Lady Bison lost 22- 25. A'sia Bradley blocked several shots and scored on some kills. Mollie Dittmar scored points off of her serve. The Lady Bison were behind 8-9 before Normangee got hot and went on a 16-3 spurt and the Lady Bison lost 11-25. Kami Sotelo scored points off her serve and Bradley and Dittmar scored points off of their kills. The Lady Bison JV had an equally rough time against Normangee losing 19-25 and 10-25. Kimberly Guevara and Kyla Harmon served well and Gracelynn Dawson and Betsy Martinez stood out on defense.

Sherry’s Shots The Lady Bison traveled to Palestine to take on the Westwood Lady Panthers in the district opener for both teams. The Lady Bison had their good moments and were competitive but lost 15-25, 20-25 and 18- 25. In the first set Shuffield served well, McKenzie Simpson was solid on defense and Bradley and Dittmar scored points on their hits. The second set was tied at 18 before Westwood took control and went on a 7-2 run and won 25-20.The Lady Bison scored the first 3 points in the third set and only trailed 18-21 before Westwood scored 4 points and won 25-21. Madison Walker played good defense and Samantha Simpson scored points on her kills. The Lady Bison JV lost 5-25 and 16- 25. Dawson served well and Martinez had good sets and recorded several kills.

The Lady Bison travel to Frankston for a match on September 11th and host Teague on September 14th.
