Korean veterans honored on Armistice anniversary
     Friday, July 27th was the 65th anniversary of the sighing of the Armistice that ended the hostilities of the Korean War. Twelve veterans of that war from the East Texas area were honored during a luncheon commemorating their service.

Rep. Ashby joins rural colleagues in letters to Sunset Commission
     AUSTIN – State Representative Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) joined dozens of legislators in two letters to the Texas Sunset Commission, expressing concern over the proposal to close 87 Department of Public Safety (DPS) offices around the state.

     Citizens State Bank donated 10 Pizza Hut pizzas to every team attending the Texas Teenage High School Eligible State Tournament held in Buffalo July 27-29. This tournament is a fundraiser for the Bison Baseball Support Group, a booster for the Bison baseball and softball programs.

     Interested in finding out what 4-H is all about? Then be sure to attend the Leon County 4-H Year Kick Off Event on Monday, August 13th, at 6:00 pm, at the Jewett Civic Center. Whether you are brand new to 4-H or a seasoned pro, everyone will learn something at this event! The event is hosted by Leon County 4-H Council members.

Sheriff and officers attend training conference
     Sheriff Kevin Ellis, Lieutenant Dee Craft, Investigator Don Craft, and Investigator Wayne Sallee recently attended the Sheriff’s Association of Texas 140th Annual Training Conference at the Gaylord Texas Resort Convention Center in Grapevine, July 21-24, 2018. Over 1,500 were in attendance.
