New cabins now open at Fort Boggy State Park

As of Memorial weekend all five cabins are now available to the public at Fort Boggy State Park. These luxurious cabins are the first of their kind in Texas State Parks. Each cabin has central air and heat, so no matter the temperature you and your family can still get out an enjoy nature. The interior of the cabins will sleep five people comfortably with a queen size bed, bunk bed and pullout trundle. Cabins are completely finished with refrigerator; large microwave; coffee pot; dinning table and chairs. Also there is a furnished deck and screen in porch for those that wish to lounge outside. Every cabin has its own outside picnic table; fire ring; grill and water faucet. Cabins rent for $85.00 per night. For more information about renting a cabin or the pavilion contact the park office at 903-344-1116.

The Friends of Fort Boggy are excited about the new programs that are being developed at the park. This year the Friends Group were able to help bring rainbow trout fishing back for the community. Also, we are now able to offer “Certified Angler Education” programs for various groups and organizations. Another goal of the Friends Group is to raise funds for the annual “Kid Fish” event at Fort Boggy State Park in which each child that participates in the clinic receives a free rod ‘n’ reel and is given the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of catching a fish. Another adventure of the Friends Group is Project T.O.A.D. assisting the park in the rehabilitation of the present trails into “Tails Of Adventure Discoveries” that will be self guided interpretative trails with educational signage along the paths.

The Friends of Fort Boggy encourages anyone interested, in preserving the natural resources and assisting in providing educational programs for visitors to Fort Boggy State Park, to become a member of the “Friends Group”. For more information about the Friends of Fort Boggy State Park and future events visit their booth on the square in Centerville this 4th of July. All available merchandize will be “tax free”. Plus bring the children by to learn more about man’s impact on nature.
