School election set for May 5th

By Rebecca Constabile

The January 22, 2018 meeting of the BISD School Board began at 6:50PM. All members were in attendance with the exception of Pat Bell. Board president Jennifer Humphries announced that the upcoming school board election would be held on May 5, 2018. Two seats are up for election; those belonging to Humphries and Bell. The deadline for candidates to put their name on the ballot is February 16, 2018. Early voting will begin at the BISD administration building on April 23, 2018.

In other news, Dr. Adams-Molina addressed the board. She spoke about the administration’s efforts to design their own curriculum. With the use of pacing calendars, instructional leadership, and good teacher student relationships, this administration is well on its way to reaching big goals.

Superintendent Lacy Freeman presented the facilities and transportation reports, both of which showed everything to be good. Enrollment has remained the same with a combined total of nine hundred and fifty-two students from all campuses. Freeman stated that the request to modify the Casey trust has now gone to the state attorney general. Once it is reviewed, it will be sent back to Leon county for final approval. At 7:24PM, the board went into a closed session where no action was taken. We were dismissed at 8:01PM.
