Chief warns scams target those who don’t keep up with news

By Mac Shadix

Telephone scams are still targeting local people, especially the elderly who are not receiving any forms of communication, Police Chief Lance Pavelka told the City Council on Monday night. They are being called and told that there are warrants out for them and that they are going to be arrested unless they send money. “Don’t send money.” The chief repeated. He also reminded everyone that the IRS does not call you and demand money. They will send certified mail, or show up on your doorstep he told the group.

As a part of his report he said that the Dept. was cracking down on trucks that are blatantly violating the speed limits. The department had answered 80 calls for service during December and had issued 198 citations.
