Leon County RTA hears program about public scams

Contributed photo The Leon County Retired Teachers Association met at 12:00 pm in Centerville at the Municipal Building for their October meeting. The October hostesses were Margaret Heggins and Jane Ann Durbin. The meeting room was decorated with scarecrows and other fall decorations.

The guest speaker was introduced by LCRTA president, Verdine H. Perry. Chief Deputy, Brent Walter, informed and warned the LCRTA members about the many scams that are prevalent in our society today. His information and warnings were well received.

It was announced by President Perry, that seven LCRTA members had attended the TRTA District VI Fall Conference held at the Region 6 Educational Service Center in Huntsville. They were Al Campbell, Dorothy Bottoms, Birdene Perry, Bobbye Bullock, Lavern Manning, Jacquelyn Morrow and Verdine H. Perry.

LCRTA had a table at the County Health Fair. LCRTA members Verdine H. Perry, Jacquelyn Morrow, Lavern Manning, Eva Bell, Bobbye Bullock, and Birdene Perry manned the LCRTA table. 6th grade teachers attended with their 6th grade students from the various school districts in Leon County. The teachers were given a bag of books from LCRTA to take back to their schools and to use in their classrooms.

Committee reports were given by various Committee chairmen. The committees reporting were Legislative by Al Campbell, Retirement Education by Lavern Manning, Health Care by Birdene Perry, Benefits and Scholarship by Jacquelyn Morrow, Foundation by Jane A. Durbin, and the Historian report given by Eva Bell.

It was decided that the December Christmas party would be discussed at the next meeting. Door prizes were given by the October hostesses.
