Bison JV takes district crown

By Gene Pruitt

The Bison JV sealed the district title by virtue of an undefeated district run but had a final game Thursday night against non district opponent Eustace, out of division 1. The JV came away with another victory 30-19. The Bulldogs got on the score board first with a drive near the end of the first quarter and the extra point kick to make the score 7-0.

It took the Bison three possessions and a fumble recovery by Erik Sandate to find the end zone with 5:17 to play in the half. Quarterback Brett Hoffman hit Lance Pauler for a 32 yard pass for the 6 points and a run for the conversion by Eric Beshears to take the 8-7 lead. There was plenty of action to end the half when the Bulldogs went on a 9 play drive to score with :14 remaining in the half. The two point conversion was stuffed by the Bison defense but Eustace was in the lead again 13-8. When Eustace tried an on side kick Gunner Ducat made the fair catch at the 44 yard line. Hoffman again went to the air, hitting Beshears for 15 yards and a first down with :03 showing on the clock. Again Hoffman found Beshears for 41 yards and the touchdown to end the half. Tyler Burk ran for the extra point and the Bison took a 16-13 lead into the locker room for half.

Buffalo fumbled the kickoff but stopped the Bulldogs on fourth down on a fake punt and it was the Hoffman-Beshears show again, this time for 63 yards and a quick TD. The kick failed but the Bison got some breathing room with a 22-13 lead. Asa Henson got a fumble recovery on the next Bulldog possession, this to go with a couple of sacks and a good defensive game over all. After possession changes by defensive stops the Bulldogs got a break themselves with a fumble recovery and on first down went 79 yards for the score to make things tighter at 22-19. A couple of fumbles for each team, the Bison had the ball at their own 48. On second down Beshears got loose for 46 yards to the end zone and Benito Avila added the two points for the end of scoring and the 30-19 victory.
