The Buffalo Bison demonstrated their depth of talent in a 55 to 21 win over the Groveton Indians on Friday night at Bison Field. Once again Jr. Quarterback Colton Green led the rushing stats with fifteen carries for 203 yards. Senior running back James Rodell added to the Indian’s problems by rushing for an additional 102 yards on fourteen attempts. Sophomore running back James Phillips tacked 39 more yards to count and the multi talented Dirk Kilgore went 17 yards in two rushing attempts.

The Bison rushing game was backed up by 96 additional yards in the passing game. Sophomore Jamaul Randal pulled in four of Green’s passes for 56 yards and one TD. Dirk Kilgore caught two for 40 yards and a TD.

A stellar defensive effort accompanied the offensive fireworks. Junior defensive tackle Luis Porras had an interception for a touchdown, as he raced 52 yards into the end zone. Porras also had five tackles, including one for a loss. Junior outside linebacker Marshall Jonas had a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown. Jonas led the Buffalo defense with sixteen tackles, including three tackles for losses. He also had one fumble recovery and one pass break-up.

Photo by Mac Shadix The Bison finished with 457 yards, including 361 rushing and 96 passing. Groveton had 307 yards. The Indians rushed for 127 yards, but 109 of those yards came on three busted plays. The Herd defense had four red-zone stops and four takeaways in the contest.

Groveton was a hard fighting, never give up opponent for the Bison. The Indians just did not have the depth of talent that Buffalo brought to the field.

The Buffalo Bison has an away conference game at New Waverly on Friday, September 29 at 7:30pm.
