The Bison JV kicked off the new season in a big way, defeating the Rice Bulldogs JV 42-0 in the first home game of the season. Buffalo deferred to get things going and the defense was big, with an interception on third down but a fourth down gave the ball back to Rice. Again the defense was tough and forced a punt but Eric Beshears returned this punt for the first score of the year. Gunner Ducat went in for the pat to make it 8-0.

The defense came up big, holding Rice to negative yardage and forcing another punt. Gains of 3 and 5 by Christian Cannon and a pass from Brett Hoffman to Jordan Rogers for 23 yards set up the 5-yard scamper by Beshears to the end zone. Francisco Saldana kicked the pat to make it 15-0. The second quarter saw more of the same with Rice not able to move the ball. Buffalo took the kick at the 41 where Beshears and Cannon went 7, 10, and 5 respectively. Hoffman kept for 7 then hit Lance Pauler for 5 to set up the Cannon 1 yard run for another td. Saldana added the extra point to increase the lead to 22-0. Rice enjoyed short success on the next possession but had to turn the ball over on downs. Hoffman came out throwing, hitting Benito Avila and Cannon before Beshears went 7 yards to pay dirt. Another successful pat pushed the score to 29-0 at the half.

The second half was more of the same with a tough Bison defense forcing the three and out and the Bison offense stopping themselves or getting to the end zone. On the second possession of the half Tyler Burk broke for 37 yards and his first touchdown. The pat kick made it 36-0. Truman Garza was on the receiving end of a Hoffman pass which went for 58 yards and the final score. The Bison defense was outstanding with John Vaughn in the Rice backfield all evening. Ethan Doyle had a sack and Hagan Helmcamp was all over the field. Also, Gunner Ducat had a good game. The Bison will be on the road this Thursday at Blooming Grove.
