One citizen observer was present, but did not wish to speak. About five minutes after the hearing was opened it was adjourned.

Following the tax hearing the Regular Called Meeting for the BISD Board of Trustees began at 6:30 pm. The board approved the budget for fiscal year 2017-2018 unanimously. In accordance with their previously reported plan to conduct a ‘tax swap’, the board unanimously set the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) rate at $1.17000 and the Interest and Sinking (I&S) rate at $0.12657. As a part of the ‘tax swap’ the board proposes to lower the (I&S) tax rate by an equal amount resulting in the total tax rate remaining the same. Details of the ‘tax swap’ plan were given in the August 8 edition of the Buffalo Press.

An M&O rate increase of that amount requires approval by the voters and the board ordered an election to be held on November 7, 2017 pursuant to Texas Tax Code Sections 26.08 and 26.05 to ratify the tax rate adopted for the 2017- 2018 school year. Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted each weekday at Buffalo Independent School District Administration Office, 708 Cedar Creek Rd., Buffalo, TX 75831 from 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. beginning on October 23, 2017 and ending on November 3, 2017. Applications for ballot by mail shall be mailed to: Donna Golden, PO Box 1239, Centerville, TX 75833.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Georgeanna Adams-Molina told those assembled that she was, “Over the moon.” about the improvements that BISD had made in the Academic Report from the state. All campuses met standards and were highly ranked among comparative districts she said.

The sheet metal is up and the roof should be completed on the Casey Ag facility, Superintendent Lacy Freeman told the board.
