Bison beat Malkoff, take three out of four at Buffalo tournament
The Bison are off to a good start in district as they played Malkoff in their first game and won 5-4 in 8 innings. The Bison hosted their own tournament on March 9-11 and won 3 of 4 games losing only to Waco University, a class 5A school 3-5.
The Bison struck for 3 runs in the bottom of the first to grab a 3-0 lead. Malakoff got a run in the top of the 6th on 2 singles and a walk but the Bison came back with a run in the bottom of the 6th on a leadoff double by Landon Agapiou and a single by Jarrett Fishbeck. Going into the top of the 7th leading 4-1 the Bison were hit with a 3 run inning by Malkoff and the Bison failed to score in the bottom of the 7th forcing extra innings. Malakoff failed to score in the top of the 8th. Jake Henigan reached first on an error by the shortstop leading off the bottom of the 8th. Agapiou smashed a single and Chase Thompson walked to load the bases with 1 out. Bryce Ryder walked and Henigan trotted in with the winning run giving the Bison a 5-4 win. Jarrett Fishbeck pitched 6 innings and Caleb Ayers tossed the final 2 innings.
The Bison hosted their tournament from March 9-11 and faced the Waco University Trojans, a 5A school, in their first game at 11:30 on Thursday. The Trojans scored 2 runs in the first and the Bison came back with a single run in the bottom of the first. The Trojans came back with a run in the top of the 3rd and the Bison trailed 1-3. The Bison scored a run in the bottom of the 4th on singles by Marshall Jonas, Hennigan and Agapiou to cut the deficit to a single run. The Trojans rallied with 2 runs in the top of the 7th and the Bison were batting in the bottom of the 7th trailing 2-5. Ryder led off with a walk and later scored on a double by Chase Thompson but the rally ended with the Bison losing 3-5. Agapiou pitched 4 innings, Ryder pitched 2 and Thompson tossed the final inning.
The Bison defeated Rice 12-0 in a later game on Thursday as Mathew Jonas pitched 3 1/3 innings and Blayne Stauffer tossed the final 2/3 of an inning in a game called at the end of 4 by the run rule. On Friday March 10th the Bison defeated Rice 5-3. Jacob Fishbeck pitched 4 innings and Hennigan tossed the final inning as the game was called after 5 innings by the time limit.
The Bison faced the Commerce Tigers in their final game on March 11th and pounded out a 13-6 win. The game began as the Tigers struck for 4 runs in the first inning but the Bison came back and scored a run in the bottom of the first as Ryder led off with a double and later scored. The Bison scored a run in the 2nd as Jarrett Fishbeck reached 1st on an error and scored on a double by Jacob Fishbeck. The Tigers scored 2 runs in the top of the third but the Bison came back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Thompson and Jarrett Fishbeck had singles mixed in with an error and 2 walks and the Bison trailed 5-6 after 3 innings. The Bison broke loosed for 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th on singles by Mathew Jonas, Stauffer and Marshall Jonas mixed in with 2 hit batters and the Bison had a comfortable 11-6 lead after 4 innings. The Bison added 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th on singles by Mathew Jonas, Stauffer and Marshall Jonas to up their lead to 13-6 and the top of the 6th was scoreless and the game was called by the time limit. The Bison had a good tournament winning
3-4 losing only to Waco University, a 5A school. Against Commerce Marshall Jonas pitched the first 3 innings, Ryder pitched 2 innings and Henigan pitched the final inning.
The Bison travel to Jewett to face the Leon Cougars on March 14th with the JV game beginning at 4:30 pm and the varsity game about 7:00 pm. The Bison host Westwood on March 17th with the JV game at 4:30 pm and the varsity immediately thereafter.
