Memorial Highway on I-45 named to honor Sergeant Wade D. Wilson
Commissioners Court began with an emotional presentation on Monday, March 13, 2017, when the Court approved a Resolution for a Memorial Highway in honor of Sergeant Wade D. Wilson. Sergeant Wilson, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 11, 2012, is a Leon County son and a Silver Star recipient for his heroic actions on the day he was killed.
Cindy Easterling, Sergeant Wilson’s mother, addressed the Court thanking them for the honor. She said, “ We are very humbled by this. I got the call from Judge Ryder and was very surprised.”
Following Easterling’s words, Judge Byron Ryder read the Resolution detailing Sergeant Wilson’s acts of bravery on the day of his death and designating I-45, between mile marker 152 and 168, as Sergeant Wade D. Wilson Memorial Highway. Judge Ryder went on to say, “We are privileged to have a native son hero and that Sergeant Wilson called Leon County home.”
