Contributed photo DPS Troopers seizured $98,960.00 cash from a traffic stop on IH-45 recently. Troopers became suspicious of a male and female that were stopped for speeding in a rented sport utility vehicle on Tuesday August 30th around 9:00 pm. Their request to search the vehicle was refused. A probable cause search was conducted after an alert by Madisonville PD Officer Jonathan Lawrenz's canine, "Jacko". Twenty bundles of US currency was discovered in a back pack on the rear seat. Both subjects disavowed ownership or knowledge of the cash.

The male was charged with money laundering and possession of a firearm by convicted felon, the female with money laundering. The District Attorney’s Office will start proceedings to seize the cash.
