Tigers are impressive in their first scrimmage
     The Centerville Tigers traveled to Thorndale for their first scrimmage on August 15th and the coaches were pleased with the results. In the controlled scrimmage each team has a certain number of plays on offense and in this format the Tigers scored three times and Thorndale once.

Bison hold first scrimmage against Bremond
     The Buffalo Bison held their first scrimmage against Bremond in Buffalo on August 15th. The junior varsity of both schools took the field first and the offenses of both teams had the ball for a series of plays. The varsity of both teams hit the field next and on their first offensive possessions the Bison tried their passing game mixed in with a few running plays.

Lady Bison compete in Fairfield Tournament
     In the season opener the Lady Bison on August 12th traveled to Hearne and defeated the Eagles. The next match the Bison made the trip to play in the Fairfield Tournament on August 14th and August 16th. The Bison played their first game against Rockdale at 4:00 pm on August 14th and lost the first game 18-25 and lost a squeaker in the second game 24-26.

Tigers grab consolation in Fairfield Tournament
     The Centerville Lady Tigers won 5 and lost 1 in the Fairfield Tournament to nab the consolation place. The tournament was held on August 14th and August 16th. In pool play on August 14th the Tigers defeated Anderson Shiro at 8:00 am and defeated Ennis winning the first game but Ennis bounced back to win game two 25-21.

Oakwood athletes working hard to prepare for upcoming season
     The Oakwood athletes have been practicing hard, with Coaches Heckathorn, Wells and Sloan there to whip the boys into shape for the upcoming season. Senior Cameron Litchfield says "the team looks pretty good considering the players we lost from last years team. Coach Wells has some great ideas for defense." Coaches Wells and Sloan joined the coaching staff this year after Ronnie Dunn left.

Cougars to travel for their first scrimmage
     The Leon Cougars traveled the short distance to Iola for their first scrimmage on August 15th. Coach Keith Sitton was pleased with his team but there are areas that need to be addressed and will be worked on this week. The attitude of the players is high and they are expecting a good season. The junior varsity also looked good in the controlled scrimmage.

Lady Cougars defeat the Groesbeck
     The Leon Lady Cougars defeated the Groesbeck Lady Goats at Leon on August 18th, sweeping the match in 3 games. The first game was intense as the largest lead either team had was 2 points as there was several lead changes, but with the game tied at 23 the Cougars scored 2 points to win 25-23. In the 2nd game the Cougars sprinted to a comfortable lead at 16-8 and coasted to a 25-18 win.
