The 2014 Leon County Youth Livestock show got underway on Thursday afternoon, April 3, and exhibitors appeared to be enjoying the spacious “digs” of the county’s new Expo Center. For most in attendance, the show was their first time to experience the Expo Center, and there were many favorable comments among those veterans of LCYLS who could appreciate the improvements.  More...

Funeral services for Mrs. Verlon Holmes, age 87, were held on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 2:00p.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Her son-in-law, Bill Hughes, officiated. Interment followed the services at Sardis Cemetery.  Visitation was held on Saturday with the family present from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.  More...

I was five years old on my first day of school at Lone Star. Daddy thought I was “babyish” and sent me to school to speed up the growing curve.
