High-scoring Bison win season opener
     The Bison opened their 2013 season on the road with a convincing 55-21 win over (3A) Hillsboro High School. The BHS coaching staff mixed things up nicely and five different players contributed scores, with the Bison defense setting up two of the touchdowns.

     The Lady Bison enjoyed a very successful week, winning both their Tuesday and Friday games in three straight at home.

JV Bison see lead slip away in season opener
     The JV Bison football team hosted Hillsboro in their season opener on Thursday, August 29. A good crowd of fans enjoyed a close and exciting game and the Bison led throughout, but the Eagles came from behind late in the game for the win.

OHS Lady Panthers volleyball update
     The Oakwood Lady Panther volleyball team has had a slow start this season. Even so, with several newbies and injuries putting extra pressure on them, they are looking a lot better than last year and getting better all the time.

OHS Panthers beaten by Blum Bobcats
     It was a rough first game for the Oakwood Panthers. It seems they have some things to work out since losing their first string quarterback, Damiyne Durham. Back-up quarterback David Allen has some big shoes to fill and it may take a little time for the team to gel again.

CHS Tigers maul Grapeland 55-0
     The Centerville Tigers opened their season with a resounding 55-0 win over Grapeland on August 30th. The Tiger offense rolled up 400 yards rushing and 50 yards passing.  Blake Payne scored two times in the first quarter as the Tigers led 21-0. Trevor Goolsby and Tully Pickens also scored in the first half giving the Tigers a commanding 38-0 lead at half time.

Lady Cougars suffer first loss against 4A Huntsville
     The Leon Lady Cougars traveled to College Station for a match against a talented team and came away victorious and improved their record to 19-0. The Cougars hosted the 4A Huntsville Lady Hornets on Friday August 30th. The Hornets were also undefeated until Tuesday when they suffered their first defeat to 4A Willis.

Centerville’s Lady Tigers capture second place in their tournament
     The Centerville Lady Tigers lost in the championship of the silver bracket to Westwood at Centerville on Saturday August 31st. The Tigers had a busy week as they entertained Alpha Omega on August 27th but lost the match. The Tigers hosted the Tiger tournament on August 29th and 31st and came in second in the Silver bracket.

Cougars look strong in opener against Normangee H.S.
     The Leon Cougars opened their season with a road game at Normangee and dominated the Panthers as they won 34-6. Speedster Caleb Eagans scored two times in the first quarter and the Cougars built a 27-0 lead on the way to the decisive 34-6 victory. Sophomore running back Peyton Archibald gained 107 yards on 19 car- ries and scored a touchdown in the third quarter to pace the Cougars.

Leon high jumper Morgan Sigford shines in summer track competition
     Local Leon athlete Morgan Sigford, captured 3rd place in the high jump at the TAAF (Texas Amateur Athletic Federation) Games Of Texas to advance to the Nationals (State Games Of America) to be held in Nebraska in 2015 and will consist of the winners in 12 sport categories in 31 states.

Higher student participation adds to school spirit
     Bison fans know that there is more to “Friday Night Lights” than just the game. At the season opener in Hillsboro they also delighted in the contributions of the 2013 Bison Band, Bison Belles and BHS cheerleaders.
