Leon County held its 39th Annual 4th of July Celebration on Thursday in Centerville on and around the Courthouse Square. Activities began earlier in the week with a talent show at the high school and mutton bustin’ and Extreme Cowboy Racing at the Leon County Cowboy Church. On Thursday July 4th American Legion Post 238 held its drawing for the His and Hers Pistol Drawing. The winner was Tammy Hutchinson of Katy, Texas. She was notified by phone call that night and made arrangements the next day to meet at Buffalo Sporting Goods in Buffalo to claim her two pistols. She was very excited to be the winner of the two pistols.  More...
Mary Gribble passed away on July 3rd, 2013 at the age of 71 at her residence in Jewett, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 28, 1941, in Houston, Texas to Collie and Marjorie Wagnon. She taught at Lee College in Baytown and also owned her own restaurant and bar in Porter.  More...

Stu’s Country Mile races bring runners to Centerville
Spain has their annual "Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona.* Not quite so famous, but eagerly anticipated nonetheless, is Centerville's annual 5K and kid's Fun Run which starts off the Funtier Days festivities on July 4th. Stu's Country Mile was created by the family of Stuart Gregory to honor the memory of the Centerville runner. This was the 24th year for the race.  More...
