OISD continues to search out money saving measures
     At the regularly scheduled Oakwood ISD School Board meeting, the highest of priorities went to continuing the search for ways to save money. That included more lay offs of "at will" employees, the cutting back of hours of secretarial staff, and a three point solution for cost saving measures presented by Superintendent Stu Musick.

Centerville’s girls basketball team honored by School Board
     The Centerville ISD Board honored the Centerville High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team at its regular meeting on March 20, 2013.

Family Dollar to open soon in Centerville
     According to Centerville City Secretary Lindsie Wood dirt work has begun for the new Family Dollar about to open in Centerville. Capital B Contractors LLC are building the facility, which is located next to the Centerville Municipal Building and across from Citizen’s Bank. An opening date has not been revealed.

Sheriff holds Town Hall Meeting at Hilltop Lakes
     Leon County Sheriff Kevin Ellis held his third Town Hall Meeting at Hilltop Lakes on March 21, 2013 with approximately 80 people in attendance.  As in previous meetings Sheriff Ellis explained plans to improve the Sheriff’s office and jail and updated the group on work thus far.

Is the City of Oakwood getting bigger?
     The City of Oakwood has been fielding rumors that both a truck stop and a Dollar General Store are coming to town...and soon. It has been confirmed that a piece of property on the outskirts of town, right within the city limits, was purchased by someone from the Houston area.

Sheriff Ellis speaks at AARP
     The Buffalo Chapter of AARP met on March 19 for a St. Patty's Day-themed fellowship, lpot-luck lunch, and an informative program. March's guest speaker was Sheriff Kevin Ellis, who shared about his background, his plans for the department, and tips for the seniors about some scams and problems to watch out for in our local area.
