Bison powerlifters excel at Reg’l Meet
State bound!
     Two of BHS's three regional qualifiers competed very successfully in last week's Regional 3 Division 3 Championships powerlifting meet at Elkhart and Tate Hartley and Jose Dominguez are both heading back to State. Disappointingly, BHS' third qualifier, Jesus Lopez, was unable to compete due to injury.

Lady Bison softball team opens 2013 season at Leon

Track season opens
     The Lady Bison high school track team competed at Mildred High School on Thursday, February 28. Marissa Jones took second in the triple jump. In the mile run, Jones finished 5th and Diana Avila was 8th. The relay team of TiOnna Adams, Jones, Lauren Helmcamp and Carmen Simpson finished 6th in the 800M relay.

All-District honors announced
Bison standouts selected for top honors
     2012-13 was an exciting re-building season for the Bison basketball team, with a new coaching staff and new players joining the returning lettermen. The result was a winning season and well-deserved recognition when the All-District selections were announced this week.

Bison have a good showing at Leon baseball tournament
     The young Bison baseball team is coming together nicely, honing their skills and teamwork as they participate in pre-district play. Last week at the Leon Tournament, BHS went a very respectable 3-2 with wins over Leon (12- 7), Thorndale (10-9) and Normangee (16-0). They lost to 3A Palestine (7-3) and to Elkhart (14-4).

     On Friday, March 1, the Centerville Lady Tigers traveled to Austin for their first trip to the State Basketball Tournament.

Louis Collins leads Oakwood Panther powerlifters at Regional meet
     Athletic Director Mike Heckathorn headed to Elkhart on Saturday with his handful of buffed out powerlifters. Christian Brummett was slated as an alternate and Ryne Moore and Louis Collins were entered into the Regional Meet in their respective weight classes. It is a pretty big deal to make it to Regionals.

Leon Cougars win two, lose three in tournament baseball
     The Leon Cougars hosted their annual baseball tournament and won 2 and lost 3 in action on February 28 and March 1-2. The Cougars de- feated Palestine 7-3 and Normangee 17-3 but lost to Buffalo 12-7, Elkhart 16-0 and Thorndale 12-3. On March 1st the Cougars defeated Normangee 17-3. Tyler Sills pitched 2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits striking out 3.

Centerville JV tennis team looking strong in area tournaments
     Madisonville Mustang Tennis Tournament The CHS JV tennis team traveled to Madisonville Monday, February 11 and won 15 of 16 matches. Winners for Centerville included Caly Thornton, Baileigh Kimbrell, Kaleb Wood , Billy Richards, Tobe Johnson, Tyler Hyndman, and Trenton Rhew.

Centerville varsity tennis team captures 3rd at the Regional Team Tournament
     The Tiger Varsity Tennis Team traveled to Franklin and won 3rd place at the Regional Team Tennis Mar 1st-Mar 2nd . The Tigers narrowly lost an opportunity to qualify for State with a 12-7 match loss to Regional Runner-up Franklin.

Oakwood Panthers end season with Regional Runner-Up trophy
     The Oakwood Panthers have not had an easy season. With only six players making up the team, these boys had to work twice as hard to get the job done. And that is exactly what they did. After taking the District and Area titles, and then defeating La Marque Academy by a score of 91-80 in the Quarter Finals last Tuesday night, the Panthers were well on their way to State.

Lady Tigers sweep awards in Dist 24AA
     The Centerville Lady Tigers capped off a great season by having several girls capture awards as the All-District teams were announced. Magyn Harris and Candace West were named Co-MVP, and Kayla Brewer was selected the Defensive MVP. Madison Taylor and Kara Jo Harris were 1st Team selections. Gabbi Shuldham was selected to the All-District 2nd team.
