Lady Bison’s winning ways continue, carrying them into the playoffs
     MILDRED The Lady Bison went into Tuesday's road game at Mildred needing a win to maintain their runner-up position in District 23-AA. The teams' first meeting had been a BHS victory by a 3-point margin, 46-43. Tuesday's game proved to be even closer -- a true nail-biter.

BHS hands Marlin their first district loss
     The Bison men fell to the Mildred Eagles on the road Tuesday, putting big playoff pressure on Friday’s home game against the Marlin Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were undefeated in district play and had defeated BHS by a twenty-point margin early in Round One. The Bison needed this one badly -- and they GOT it, winning 62-55.

     The Junior Varsity Bison men improved their district record to 9-1 with wins last week over Mildred and Marlin. MILDRED

OHS Panthers pounce on Apple Springs Eagles
     The Oakwood Panthers traveled to Apple Springs last Friday night to take on the Eagles. It was a close game all the way up until the fourth quarter when the Panthers caught a second wind and pulled ahead 70-51. This win brings the Panthers one step closer on their winning streak to the District title.

Panthers lift at Palestine powerlifting meet
     This past Saturday, the Oakwood Panther powerlifting team traveled to Palestine to compete against area schools. The Panthers came home with a whole slew of awards.

Leon Cougars fall to Grapeland Sandies
     The Leon Cougars hosted the Grapeland Sandies on January 29th and were handed a 76-29 setback. The Cougars saw too much of Patrick Walker as he poured in 36 points.

Centerville Lady Tigers win 24-AA district championship
     The Centerville Lady Tigers defeated the New Waverly Lady ‘Dogs 69-30 on January 29th to wrap up the district championship.  They then traveled to Anderson on February 1st and won 40-9. The Tigers are 25-5 on the season and a perfect 13-0 in district.

Tigers drop one to New Waverly
     The Centerville Tigers played tough the entire game overcoming a 30-18 deficit but the shots wouldn’t fall in the final period and they lost 62-52. The Tigers trailed by only 3 after the 1st quarter but scored only 7 points in the second period and trailed 18-30 at halftime.

Jr High Bison fall to Teague in season finale
     Eighth Grade Action  The 8th grade Bison boys went to Teague on Thursday, January 31st for the final game of the 2012-13 season. The BJHS team needed to beat the Lions to be co-district champions. They fought hard, but this year they Bison had to settle for the runner-up spot.

BHS to host powerlifting meet
Coming up this Saturday!
     The Bison Invitational Powerlifting Meet will be held at BHS on Saturday, February 16th. If you have never attended a meet, this would be a good one to watch. Last year the BHS gym was packed with lifters and fans enjoyed watching from the comfortable seats.

Attention: Runners
     The “Zim Zipper” is a 5K walk/run (and 100M Dash for children under 10) planned for Saturday March 2, 2013 in Palestine. The run will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Court Drive Church of Christ (1434 Court Drive, Palestine, Texas). Pre-registration fee is $20 and race day is $25. Proceeds will help sponsor mission work in Zimbabwe.
