AARP starts the New Year right
     Members and guests of the Buffalo Chapter of AARP got a little help with their New Year's Resolutions at last Tuesday's January meeting. Randy Shelton, owner of The Gym, a new workout facility opening in Buffalo, shared some candid thought on the benefits of staying active. Afterward, Teresa Nix followed up by demonstrating exercises which can be done while seated.

Sheriff’s employee celebrates 35 years with the Department
     Larry W. Keith is proud to say that he has worked for the Leon County Sheriff’s Department longer than anyone who is currently employed. He started as a night jail dispatcher on 2-15-78, which means he is about to celebrate his 35th anniversary with the Department.

     Technology For All is offering FREE Computer Classes every Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Public Library. The classes being offered during the month of January are: “Email Basic” and “Microsoft Word” (learning how cut, copy, paste and develop documents and flyers for home or office needs).

Centerville VFD offers rabies shots
     On Saturday, January 19 the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department held a service for the community offering rabies vaccinations for just $5.00 per dog. Veterinarian Lisa van Reener and vet tech Kayla Sanders were on hand to administer the shots.

OISD Awards students for UIL
     In a special ceremony held in the Elementary School Library at the start of the School Board meeting on Monday night, OISD recognized students for their placement in UIL events at Stephen F. Austin. With OISD Superintendent Stu Musick's assistance, certificates and medals were handed out before the School Board members and families of the UIL participants.
