Leon County DPS seized 4 pounds of marijuana from a subject traveling IH-45 from Houston to Dallas on Monday December 10th around 5 pm. The vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation and searched after an odor of marijuana was detected from its interior. The driver fled on foot into the woods and has not been apprehended.   More...

The Newtown, Connecticutt school tragedy was still on everyone's mind at the BISD School Board meeting of Monday, December 17th. Board President Jim Scott opened the meeting with an eloquent prayer for all those affected by the massacre. Santa made his annual pre-Christmas trip to Oakwood last week. He likes to stop by the Memorial Baptist Church to visit with the kids, check on any last minute Christmas wish list changes, and have a heaping plate of blueberry pancakes, sausage, and homemade syrup. Steve Dennis, 74, passed away on December 12, 2012, at his home in Oakwood, Texas. Steve was born in Eldorado, Texas on August 9, 1938.  Steve was a resident of Oakwood, Texas for the past 25 years. He was the son of the late Denny and Dorothy Dennis of Lago Vista, Texas. Steve was a loving husband, and an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather.  More...
