Dorcas Kratz

Funeral services for Dorcas Kratz, age 91, of Buffalo, were held at 11 A.M., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. Rev. Darren King and Rev. Gerald Reeves officiated and interment followed in the Lummus Cemetery south of Buffalo.

Dorcas Kratz was born on December 11, 1920 in Buffalo, Texas to Tony Vergil & Violet (Dolson) House. She was a homemaker her whole life, caring for her husband and nine children. Dorcas was willing and able to do just about anything she put her mind to. Even in her eighties, she was still trimming her peach tree with a chainsaw. She loved to cook, garden, quilt, sew and do yard work. Dorcas also loved to travel. Although she never received her driver's license, she was a great passenger and her family always made sure that she was able to go wherever she wanted to go. Dorcas and her husband had lived in Buffalo since 1980, coming from Houston, and she was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Dorcas was affectionately known to most everyone as “Granny.” She passed away Wednesday, December 5th, just six days shy of her ninety-second birthday. Dorcas was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, Robert Kratz; son, Alva Gene Kratz; brothers, Grover & J.E. House and sisters, Vera Crenshaw and Alma Kratz.

Survivors include son, R.J. Kratz & wife, Rena of Broaddus; daughters, Geneva Christensen & husband, Aksel of Buffalo, Rosa Privette of Buffalo, Nell Jackson & husband, Jay of Woodville, Arva King & husband, David of Jewett, Dale Lazalier of Kennard, Beverly Fergusson & husband, Dr. Fred Fergusson of Humble & Sherry Owens & husband, Leroy of Shepherd; sisters, Mickey Call of Dayton and Winnie Mable Martin & husband, Mike of Maury, North Carolina; twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons; Joe Moore, Tim Moore, DeWayne Billingsley, Dean Privette, Brian Gilbert, Greg Walton, Brandon Fergusson, Jason Fergusson and Randall Logan. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters; Cyndi Bachman, Veronica Enix, Angie Burchfield, Stephanie Harding, Rachel King, Stacey Watts, Amy Largent, April Kratz, Audra Louden, Nicole Owens and Shelley Logan.

Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.
