Women’s Fun and Fact Day to be hosted by TEEA of Leon County
     Join the Texas Extension Educators Association of Leon County for the 3rd annual “Women’s Fun and Fact Day.” On the agenda for the day is Wind Energy, a Friend to Friend Pink Party for Cancer Awareness (attendees are encouraged to dress in pink, and a prize will be given to the best pink ensemble), a craft demonstration on Use it up, Make Do or Re Do, and a quilt program given

DAR hears John Adams program
     At the resular Colonel George Dashiell Chapter meeting on February 16, Jan Reeder presented a program on John Adams, second president of the United States. Adams was a very accomplished patriot, gave many years of his life to the service of his country. Serving many different levels of appointments, he went on to become elected Vice-president, then President.

Miserable weather doesn’t stop Leon County CERT members
     Leon County Community Early Response Team has been busy, learning new skills to better serve our community if ever the need arises. Twelve members attended the Lake Whitney Search and Rescue School this past weekend. Classroom instructions include basic search and rescue techniques, psychological factors of lost victims, tracking and reading signs.

     Buffalo’s Merry Millar is a woman who wears many hats: business owner, student, and single mother, to name a few. Merry and her two youngest children moved to Buffalo from California, where Merry had once worked as a purchasing assistant for an auto gold-plating business but had been a homemaker for the past 20 years.

     Yvonne Waters Woodard is one of those women who gets things done. Whether it’s writing an article for the paper, leading a group for the bereaved at her church or picking up trash for the community center; if she says she will do it, it will get done.

Norma Jean Moore
     Norma Jean Lathrop Moore is the very heart of the Lone Star Community Center. Having grown up on the property where she now lives, she attended the old Lone Star rock school before it burned. After moving back to Flo, following raising a family in Ft. Worth, Norma became instrumental in purchasing the old school building from the Oakwood School District.

My salute to Leon County Women
     I am a Leon County woman, as was my mother, and her mother, and her mother and her mother. My grandmother’s grandmother was Susanna Parker Lathrop and she came to Leon County before 1860. My maternal grandfather’s grandmother was Adaline Harrison Woodard who came to Leon County, as a widow around 1870.

The Joy of the Journey – Reverend Richards
     Joy Mikulinka Richards brings a fresh new dimension to the United Methodist Church of Centerville. Raised in Hallettsville, Texas, the itinerate minister earned a Master’s of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and is in her third year as pastor at Centerville following her previous pastorate in Port Arthur.

     Vicki Carrigan has dreamed of being a coach as long as she can remember. She grew up playing basketball, volleyball and running track. Her senior year at Corsicana High School her volleyball team went 38-2 and was 1980 4A State Finalist losing only their 1st and last games. Buffalo Ex Student Association recognizes Archie and Janette Hester Van Wey
     Buffalo Ex Student Association is privileged to present two Buffalo Ex Students who chose to stay in Buffalo after graduation. Archie Van Wey III and Janette Hester Van Wey graduated from BHS in 1974 and 1975. They begin their married life together in 1975.
