The Varsity Lady Bison held on to their share of the lead in the race for district championship with two more wins this week. The games were very different -- a nail-biter in Malakoff and a runaway over Teague in Buffalo -- but the common factor was a standout performance in each by junior Kylan Ferguson. More ... The 2011 Bison’s outstanding strong safety, punter and kick return specialist, D.J. Jackson, will continue his football career as a Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggie. Jackson, a multi-sport athlete at BHS, signed his letter of intent on Wednesday in a brief cereony at the new BHS fieldhoouse. More ... The Buffalo men had 'a hard row to hoe' at Malakoff on Tuesday, facing the athletic Lions on their home court, and missing injured Kyle Read. By halftime BHS trailed to MHS 18- 42 and the second half was almost a repeat of the first. The final score was 34-80. More ... BHS senior D.J. Jackson (center) has signed to play college football at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, a Division 2 school. More ... The Centerville Lady Tigers blasted Trinity 59-27 to up their district mark to 11-0 with one game remaining. The Tigers dominated from the start outscoring Trinity 24-6 in the first period. The lead expanded in the second quarter as the Tigers outscore Trinity 10-8 to take a commanding 34-14 lead. The lead increased by 9 after 3 periods. More ... The Leon Lady Cougars remained in a tie for first with the Buffalo Bison as they defeated Malakoff 52-43.The Cougars led by 5 after 1 period and had a 27-16 advantage at half time. The Cougars put the game away with a strong 3rd quarter as they outscored Malakoff by 13 to take an insurmountable 44-20 lead entering the final period. More ... The Oakwood High School Panther Powerlifting Team traveled to the Van Invitational last where they picked up several medals. Ryne Moore got 3rd place in the 132 pound division with a total lift weight of 625 pounds and Christian Brummett took 3rd in the 198 pound division with a total lift weight of 1020 pounds. More ... The Centerville Tigers hosted the Trinity Tigers and let a close one slip away. The game could have gone either way but Centerville didn’t get the lucky bounce. More ... The new BHS field house has been completed, lacking only some lockers, cabinets and desks, and the Bison are really enjoying the new facility. More ... The Oakwood Junior High boys basketball A and B teams took on, and took out, the Latexo Tigers last Tuesday night on their home court. The varsity boys took on the Trinidad Trojans on Tuesday and their rivals, the Neches Tigers on Friday night. Against the Trinidad Trojans: More ... The Oakwood Junior High Lady Panthers hosted the Latexo Lady Tigers in their last home game of the season. The Lady Panthers worked their tails off but with only five team members, fatigue and an injured player took its toll. They lost to the Lady Tigers 7-16. BHS' JV men battled in Malakoff last Tuesday in a game that saw the lead change several times. The teams were tied at halftime and MHS outscored the Bison late in the game to send BHS home empty-handed, 31-38. Layne Shelton led the Bison effort with 12 points, followed by Jose Nava (6), O.T. Garcia (4), David Espino (3) , Josue Roldan, Adam Simpson and Trent Martin (2 each). More ... Buffalo Junior High’s boys and girls teams competed in district tournments last week. The boys tournament was held at BHS and the girls competed at Teague High School. More ... The JV Lady Bison travelled to Malakoff for what proved to be a close, exciting game. BHS led 8-4 after the first quarter, but MHS closed the gap to two points, 13-11, at halftime. The Lady Bison led by only one going into the final period and the Lady Lions finally took the lead in the fourth. Shelby Ballard sank a bucket to tie things late in the game. MHS went back ahead with a free throw. More ... Buffalo hosted the junior high boys district tournament last Thursday and Saturday. BJHS’ eighth grade boys placed 5th in district after a loss to Leon sent them to the losers’ bracket where they beat Malakoff in their best game of the season. More ...
