CHS Tigers split in last week’s district contests

Sherrys Shots On Tuesday the Centerville Tigers varsity men tangled with the district leader Crockett Bulldogs, a tall, athletic team with a deep bench. The Tigers played tough all night and were very competitive but the Bulldogs proved to be too much to them.
The Tigers started slowly and were behind 9-17 after the first period. With good hustle they cut the deficit to 5 by halftime (22-27) but trailed by 10 heading into the final quarter and were saddled with a 42-57 loss.
Jamal High had a double-double as he scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Ryan Payne tossed in 8 points and Tulley Pickens snatched 8 rebounds.
IN THE JV GAME the Tigers got off to a slow start and trailed 2-12 before pulling up to 26-28 in the second half. They were outscored 7-13 in the final minutes and lost 41-33.
Hayden Nash was one of the shortest players on the court but he hit three treys against the much taller Bulldogs and finished with 11 points. Devin Jankowiak led the Tigers in scoring with twelve.
The Tigers defeated Anderson-Shiro on January 27th to even their district mark at 4-4. The Tigers had a 9-7 lead after the first period but increased the advantage to 4 at half time. The Tiger defense held Anderson-Shiro to 6 points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth period to win 53-35. Jamal High had 11 points and pulled down 16 rebounds and Ryan Payne scored 11 to pace the Tigers. Tulley Pickens and Garrett Chase pulled down 6 boards each.
The Tigers have an open date on January 31 before hosting Trinity on February 3. They travel to Onalaska on February 7.
