Gordon (Uncle Junior) Abney

Gordon (Uncle Junior) Abney, Jr. 87, of Fairfield, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 at his residence. Services and burial will be in Fultondale, Alabama under the direction of Walker Chapel Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Cedar Grove RV Park in Fairfield. Local arrangements were by Capps Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Abney was born October 15, 1924 in Saryton, Alabama to parents Gordon Abney, Sr. and Rosa Lee Easter Abney. He had been a Fairfield resident for nine years. He was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. During his life Mr. Abney worked as a coal miner; a heavy equipment mechanic; an 18 wheeler driver; and a crane operator. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jewel Abney; a son, Michael Gordon Abney; a sister, Margie Abney Tusa.

Survivors include five children, Chelita Abney Freeman; Mary Dianna Davis; Marion Jo Brentley; and Woodrow Wayne Abney; all of Georgia; Malinda Sue Bailey of Porter, TX. Eighteen grandchildren and 28 greatgrandchildren; his caretakers, a niece, Cereda L. Johnson of Fairfield and William Bain, Sr. of Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews.
