The event which was attended by a number of office holders from Leon County and some seeking state office, featured a bar-b-que dinner and a live band. Among those in attendance were: Leon County Judge Byron Ryder, Sheriff Jerry Wakefield and his wife Mamie, County Commissioners Dean Player and Joey Sullivan. District Attorney Whitney Smith and District Clerk Diane Oden Davis were present at the event as were Mike and Dan Wallrath. Richard Wallrath was attending another long scheduled event. State Representative Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, who is seeking the Texas Senate seat currently held by State Senator Steve Ogden was present along with one of his young sons.
The ranch donated a registered horse, CR Hickory’s Jewel to be auctioned off for the campaign’s benefit, and with Buffalo Press Publisher Mac Shadix, acting as auctioneer the three year old roan filly brought $1650 from top bidder Sandra Mullenax. A longhorn mount and a western style framed picture brought in over $600 for the campaign in a silent auction.
