Veterans Affairs

The Vietnam Veterans of America and their Associates have been busy planning for several new activities. They are collecting Valentines again this year to be handed out to our veterans in the Veterans Assisted Living Home next to the VA Hospital in Temple, Texas. If you are interested in helping with this project, please leave your valentines, candy, and stuffed valentine toys at The Horses Mouth Coffee Shop, The Stagecoach Deli or Mickey’s Pizza, no later than February 9th. We will be delivering them on Saturday, the 11th.

First thing on the agenda is an old-fashioned Sock Hop to be held on March 3 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Palestine. The band Shake, Rattle and Roll will be providing the 50’s music, a roving photographer will be taking pictures that can be purchased on the spot and of course, what Sock Hop would be complete without some juicy hamburgers to feast on?

The VVA will have a booth at the Buffalo Gun Show on March 3rd and 4th, where they will be selling raffle tickets for a Ruger Mini 30 and a Kimber Eclipse Target 2, along with t-shirts, military patches, hats and other military items.

They will also have a booth, selling the same items at the Dogwood Spring Festival in Palestine, Texas on March 24. While there be sure and look for the gate decorated by the VVA Associates which I am sure is going to be the nicest one there.

Also in the planning stages is an Evening Under the Stars on March 31, to help raise funds for the DAV Van. There will be food, music, dancing and a hayride. Festivities will start at 4:00pm and go until ??? at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living facility. No charge, just donations.

American Legion Post #335 will hold their next meeting on Saturday, February 4th at the Centerville Municipal Building, (across from the Post Office) at 6:00 PM. There will be a pot luck supper with the membership bringing their favorite dish, either entrees or desserts to share. Cold drinks, coffee and tea will be furnished by the Post. The main topic of this meeting will be about work parties at the Legion grounds where the new building will be located. Help is needed and all volunteers are welcome.

Please add Joel Garcia and John Mills to your prayer lists.
