Where the Music Plays

David Parker

I have been reading some things lately that has sparked my interest. Some things that I, being a musician in a working band, can relate too. Now I am not going to go into all the details, but it concerns the things a musician, and or, band have to put up with in order to play at venues. The fact that a band is a service provider, (providing entertainment) and is often taken for granted.

So many musicians when they are starting out are so eager to get noticed they will play for any offer they can get..., even if it is free. But take into consideration what all that musician has invested in his service. Most of the time it cost that musician more to travel to play than he or they walk away with. Now I’m not referring to benefits and fund raisers, that is something all together different in my opinion. In a case such as that, the musician makes that call on his or her own, and I am certainly one that will donate my service to a worthy cause.

So, heres what I would like to see. A benefit. A benefit for musicians. A full day or weekend of music, food and fun. Bands donate their time to come out and provide their service of entertainment for all to see and hear. Silent auctions, contests, games, arts, raffles, food, T-shirt vendors,... and all proceeds go to the paying of the bands for coming out to provide their service. It would be like a big, "THANK YOU!" to all working musicians.

Maybe this can happen... maybe it won't. We'll just have to wait and see. But personally I think it would be worth a try......and I may be the one to try it....but I can't do it alone....I would certainly need a helping hand or two. Let me know what you think, my email is davidwparker66@gmail.com.

We all have a part when it comes to music, even if you don't think you do. One of the best things a musician can have, is support.... some one who backs them up all the way. You don't have to be a singer, or play an instrument........ you just have to listen...incourage others, ......and be....where the music plays.
