The Flo News
Norma Moore The Buffalo Press by Norma Moore, with contributions from Parthena Moore & Betty Beard
We want to recognize The Buffalo Press, a trademark of our area since 1912. The newspaper was started when the railroad helped establish the town as a commercial and important location for business. The first Buffalo Press building was located on Hwy. 75 where the Billy Webb gas station was. It was a small building with the operation run by a Mr. O’Bannon who was succeeded by Joe and Patsy Inderman. The newspaper moved to another building close to the original location and by this time Ray and Connie Fulks were the owners and the paper was being distributed throughout Leon County. Two copies of each edition of the newspaper were now filed for future reference much the way the big city newspapers and magazine publications did (they were called “morgues” where the back issues were kept). The Fulks operated the paper for many years.
Mrs. Ruby Parrish and Winnie Taylor were popular writers from Flo who contributed wtty and informative stories, events reporting and so forth. Winnie kept her name a mystery from her readers for many years.
The Buffalo Press moved again, this time to Hwy. 79. The town was growing; more businesses were opening and the circulation of the paper spreading throughout Buffalo and the surrounding areas. At this time it was owned by the Harriman family.
Mac Shadix as publisher/ editor now operates the paper. The paper offers great variety as well as creative journalism. The people of Flo are very proud to be included in this publication that has been serving Buffalo and the surrounding area for 100 years.
