Kevin Pierson joins BISD staff
Kevin Pierson has joined BISD and the men’s coaching staff.
VanGophoto The Buffalo Bison and Lady Bison gained an enthusiastic fan when Kevin Pierson moved to town last summer and now the district is benefitting from a bright new teacher, as well.
Pierson grew up in Friendswood, Texas, the son of a Baptist pastor. After high school he attended Texas Tech where he earned a bachelors degree in History in 2006. He stayed in Lubbock and in May of 2011 added a Masters degree in sports management. While he was completing his education, Kevin's parents Raymond and Joyce Pierson moved to Buffalo. This summer Kevin joined his parents here and immediately began to get involved in the community. He volunteered at First Baptist Church's VBS, then began working with the church youth. In Friendswood Kevin had been involved in choir and musical theater, and those interests led him to join the FBC choir and he had a solo in this year's Christmas Cantata.
Pierson is a big sports fan. In high school he served as manager of the FHS baseball team, and at Tech he was a graduate assistant for the Red Raiders football, baseball and basketball teams. When school started last fall Pierson began substitute teaching and could be seen --an heard-- at most of the junior high and high school games, cheering on his students. His dream was to coach.
With the reorganization of the district's administrators, Nan Grisham moved up to teach junior high math, vacating the position of ISS (In- School Suspension) teacher at BISD's junior high and high school. This semester Pierson has taken that position and also joins the men's coaching staff as an assistant in basketball, baseball and football.
Asked what he feels will be his strong suit as a teacher and coach, Pierson summed up: “Doing the right thing, for the right reason.”
Welcome to Buffalo, Kevin!
