The prestigious Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame has chosen their 2012 inductee class and it includes local cowboy Dan Courmier. The honor recognizes Courmier and six other cowboys and two women for their "devotion, athletic ability, and pure compassion for the sport of rodeo".  More...

On 12-29-11 at 7:11PM Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers received information of a pedestrian/ vehicle accident on IH-45 in the south part of our County. The first call came in from the girlfriend of the struck pedestrian. Another call immediately came in from a passenger of the car which had struck the pedestrian. Funeral services for Sid Washington, Jr., age 62, of Houston and formerly Leona were held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.
