A white buffalo calf has been born on a ranch in Greenville, Texas. The recent news items caught my attention, because of my interest in Native American cultures. The rash of break-ins reported last week was only the beginning of the City of Buffalo’s crime wave. During Tuesday night, June 28th, several more local businesses were hit. The method of entry was similar to last week’s break-ins -- doors busted in. Small amounts of cash were taken and in most cases damage to the properties outweighed the loss from the theft.  More...

When July 4th comes on Monday it gives just a few more days to eat and play and that’s exactly what many of the Leon County citizens and their guests did. To start things off the Centerville Chamber of Commerce hosted an amazing Shrimp Boil in the Courthouse lawn on Saturday 2 at 6:00 p.m. The shrimp was large, tender and tasty and was all gone before the clock struck 7:00.  More...
Funeral services for Franklin R. McDade, age 85 of Kosse, Texas were held 10 am Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Walters Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo. Gene Garland officiated and burial was in the Kosse Cemetery.  Franklin McDade was born in Kosse, Texas on January 13, 1926 to Walter and Lillie (Williams) McDade.  More...

As the summer softball and baseball seasons wind down, several Buffalo teams are still in the hunt.  Softball teams which have advanced to District are playing this week. Over in Crockett, the Lady Bison 12-U team is off to a good start with a win over Neches, 6-4, on Independence Day. They are playing a strong opponent tonight in the winner’s bracket. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Leon County will begin a new program for Master Gardeners on July 29, 2011. This highly trained core of volunteers will assist with programs and projects in Leon County. Master Gardeners are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens.  More...
