Commissioners rescind burn ban after lengthy debate
The Leon County Commissioners’ Court discussed a rather hot subject at Monday’s regular meeting when they considered lifting the burn ban. Commissioner Joey Sullivan said the ban had been in effect for so long many of his constituents needed to burn some refuse.  More...

In their April 11th meeting of the Buffalo City Council, councilmembers' focus still appeared to be on squeezing the most from every tax dollar. On Friday evening, a car driven by teenager Donte Abram, a former OISD student, was headed down FM 542 from the direction of St. Paul headed into Oakwood. Suddenly, Abram noticed smoke billowing out from the dash. He did not know what was going on and he did not know what to do. Abram said he pleaded with God to help him.  More...
Edith M. Jackson, 93, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in Fairfield. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Skinner officiating. The track at the old high school campus had been in disrepair for quite some time and was not a regulation size, so it had been many years since BHS had hosted a track meet. That changed last Thursday, April 7, when the school held a practice meet at the new track and field stadium at Buffalo High School. Some equipment has not arrived so no field events were held at this meet.  More...
