On Thursday, December 16, at approximately 6:40 p.m. a 20-month-old girl was playing behind her family vehicle when she was backed over by a family member. The child was transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Bryan Air Medical. According to Larry Keith with the Leon County Sheriff’s Department the child sustained injuries on her lower legs but her wounds were not life-threatening.   More...

In a short but effective meeting this past week, the members of the City Council of Oakwood voted unanimously to join other cities in banning the sale of the substance known as "K2" in any and all businesses inside the city limits. Funeral services for J.M. Boyd, age 70, of Centerville were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Rev. Dean Easterling, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Centerville, officiated at the services. Interment was in the Centerville Cemetery following military honors provided by the United States Army.   More...
Years back, the Dunbar Alumni Association wanted to do something nice during Christmas time to honor the over 75 crowd in the communities surrounding Oakwood and to just fellowship with the community. Their idea produced the annual Holiday Dinner.   More...
