The BHS volleyball team travelled to Mildred on Friday afternoon, September 10 for their first district contest. The Lady Bison Varsity won in three games, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19.

VERSUS LOVELADY

On September 7, the Lady Bison hosted the Lovelady Lady Eagles in varsity and junior varsity contests. The Varsity roster was complemented by the addition of senior Alex Jenkins, who was eligible to compete for the first time on Tuesday, after transferring in from Trinity this fall.

VARSITY ACTION

After trailing early in the Game One, Shelby Ballard served for a string of points that popped the Lady Bison into a solid lead. Scattered kill shots by Kelsey Canady, Raven Lott, Alex Jenkins and Samantha Atkinson helped clinch the win for BHS, 25- 10.

Once again, on Ballard’s serve the Lady Bison rolled up their sleeves and climbed out of that hole with a seven-point run, taking a 10-8 lead. The Lady Bison let Lovelady pick up some cheap points and the score was close for several points, then Buffalo came on strong to put the game away. Jenkins finished things off with a dink, and BHS won 25-21.

The Lady Bison dug a hole for themselves early in Game Three, trailing 0-4. They again caught up on Ballard’s serve (6-6) , and took a 12-10 lead on Canady’s turn at the line. Jenkins served out with a seven-point run that included 4 aces.

Reagan Read and Lindsey McGill led their team in digs in this match. Jenkins led in kills with 4, followed by Raven Lott and Canady with 3 kills each. Ballard led in aces with 7, followed by Jenkins with 6.

JV ACTION

The BHS Lady Bison Varsity and JV volleyball teams hosted Lovelady on Tuesday afternoon, and Buffalo came out on top in both contests.

In JV action, BHS had the upper hand early in Game One, but service errors kept the Lady Bison from pulling away. Lovelady took the lead at 16-17, then the advantage bounced between the teams with almost every serve. Kylen Armstrong served several points to put the Lady Bison in position for the win, and Heather Humphries stepped up and finished it with an ace for the 26-24 victory.

In Game Two, Buffalo led throughout the contest. Laken McCabe went on a serving streak that put the game out of reach, and BHS won the game, 25-8.

McCabe led in service points with 8. Kaila Ward, Hailey Ellison and Courtney Dudley each notched two kills. Ellison led in aces with 3, and Hannah Wilson logged two digs.

THIS WEEK District play continues on September 14th at Teague, beginning with the 9th grade teams at 5:00.
