Centerville ISD holds budget hearing for 2010-2011 The Centerville Independent School District held a public hearing on August 30, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the proposed budget and tax rate for 2010-11. Superintendent Cathy Nichols explained the Texas Education Agency’s legal requirements for the budget, while explaining the budget is based on estimates of expenditures and revenue. Funding sources for schools include state funding, local funding (property taxes), and Federal funding (dedicated to a specific purpose). The estimates for state funding are based on information obtained through the PEIMS (Public Education Information Maintenance System), which includes average daily attendance for students, number of teachers and staff, number of students in specific programs, etc. Tax collections are based on the property values certified by the Leon County Central Appraisal District. The estimated local revenue for the district which includes tax collections, tax penalties and interest, investments, athletic activity, etc., is $2,894,650. State revenue is estimated to be $3,046,368. TRS On-Behalf is $244,979. Total estimated operating revenue is $6,185,997. Es- timated revenue is $154,681 less than the previous year. Nichols explained although revenue has decreased, expenses have not. Salaries have increased as well as utility costs, supplies, transportation, etc. The proposed tax rate of $1.04 was discussed. The district has no debt; therefore, does not require an Interest and Sinking tax rate. The lunchroom budget was also reviewed. Local, state, and federal revenue and expenditures are estimated to be $246,642. |
