Lady Cougars take Consolation at the Tyler tournament

continued their strong early season play when they travelled to Tyler for a tournament against some tough 5A schools as well as some very good 2A, 3A, and 4A teams. A total of 32 teams entered the tournament. The Cougars defeated Athens 25-9, and 25-9 in their first game on August 27th. The second game on Friday the Cougars defeated Huntington 25-19, and 25-11. The final game on Friday pitted the Cougars against Nacogdoches and the Cougars prevailed 25-12, and 25-9 to win their pool and advance to the Championship bracket on Saturday August 28th.

Paul first game against Hallsville 25-22 but dropped a heartbreaker 27-29 in the second game and lost the deciding game 15-25. The Cougars then rallied and defeated Rains 25-13 and 25-15 to advance to the consolation championship game against Lindale. The Cougars came through in the championship game with a 25-21 and 25-18 victory. Chelby Stanford was

The Cougars won their Stats for the Cougars 125 digs, 2 blocks, 5 aces; Avery Robinson 11 kills, 1 assist, 13 digs, 8 blocks, 2 aces; Kayla Varvel 6 kills, 1 assist, 5 digs, 5 blocks, 4 aces; Thelma Flores 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig, 2 blocks; Sharon Coulter 1 assist, 112 digs; Shea Mc- Cune 26 digs.

The Cougars traveled to West on August 24th and came away with a 25-10, 25- 8, and 25-11 victory. Amy Holt led the Cougars in kills with 14 followed by Allison Carrigan with 10, and Chelby Stanford with seven. Stanford also led the Cougars with 27 assists. Sharon Coulter had 29 digs and Amy Holt had twenty one.

The Cougars have an outstanding 21-2 record and look strong as they open district play on Sept. 10th.

The Cougars travel to Huntsville on September 3rd and host Madisonville Sep- tember 7th before district play begins on the 10th.
