Veterans Affairs

In only three years, the Vietnam Veterans of America #991 has already risen to the #2 position in Texas. They are the hardest working veterans group that I have ever encountered and have already given out five scholarships this year. This past meeting they welcomed new member Charles E. Morgan, USAF Maj. Retired, who is also running for District 8, State Representative.
I have wonderful news for Leon County veterans that use the Bryan/College Station VA Clinic. WE HAVE A VAN!! Yes, thanks to Larry Bass and his diligent efforts, we now have a van furnished by the VA that will be based in Centerville and used to take our veterans to the VA Clinic and to the Temple and/ or Waco VA hospitals. The details have not been worked out yet, but it will be used on alternate days to go to the clinic and hospitals.
Now we need drivers for this van. Many of our veterans have no family or means to get to the clinic or hospital and actually do without healthcare because of their lack of transportation.
Please help us to help our veterans in their time of need by donating your time to drive them to their appointments. No special license is needed; you just need a clean driving record. The VA furnishes training, physicals and your lunch on the days you drive. If we could recruit enough drivers we would only have to drive once a month. Please call Larry Bass at 903- 467-4441 or Gary Maples at 903-536-1251.
