Alisia Folsom steps up to the board as teacher

Alisia Folsom Alisia Folsom Alisia Folsom has already been loving on BISD students for six years as a teacher's aide, but this year she returns to Buffalo Elementary School as a teacher, working with the dyslexic students and as the campus' reading intervention teacher.

Alisia grew up in this area

When Seth started kindergarten I went to part-time xray and began to volunteer at his school. BISD hired me in Febraryary as a teachers aide, and I started taking a few classes. I'd always thought about teaching, and finally it was as if God said: 'It's time for you to do what I have for you to do.' This is my calling," Alisia concludes, flashing her amazing smile.

Seth struggled with dys- lexia early in his early school years, but today reading is one of his strongest areas. He has been TAKS commended several times. Going through that with her son was the catalyst behind Alisia's decision to specialize in that field of study. "We don't all learn the same way. My goal is figuring out with each kid what helps them learn, and helping them progress from there."

Now that her studies are complete and she can actually anticipate having some free time, Alisia expects to stay busy "with whatever the kids are doing". Seth (12) is a 7th grader and Landon (8) is in third grade. She also enjoys riding with her husband Terry on his Harley. (And yes, she has the required leather jacket and chaps!)
