Three teams of Bison -- Varsity, JV and Freshmen -- travelled to Franklin on Thursday afternoon to wrap up two-a-days with a final pre-season scrimmage.
The action started at 6:00 with the Varsity men facing off in a controlled scrimmage -- 15 offensive then 15 defensive plays. The Bison defense had trouble containing the Lions who drove the field several times, staying with a ground game and breaking big running plays.
On offense, Buffalo moved the ball well on the ground, leaning heavily on brothers Aurelio and Jose Dominguez. The Bison strung together several first downs but were not able to reach the endzone. The BHS coaches looked at both Ryan Read and Tate Hartley at the quarterback position.
Later in the scrimmage the two teams played one quarter under real game conditions. The Bison defense was fired up and stopped the Lions' first drive when Thomas Corbin made a tackle behind the line for a loss on 3rd down, forcing a punt. A penalty killed the Bison's first drive and they punted as well. Franklin scored quickly on their next possession. Back on offense, the Bison orchestrated a solid drive with Kendall Sheffield and the Dominguez brothers contributing big runs. Aurelio Dominguez punched it in from the 5-yard-line for a TD. Frank- lin managed another quick score.

The Bison JV took the field with Nathan Jones at quarterback. They showed both promise and early-season mistakes, alternating beween big gains and costly turnovers. Calvin Young ran for a TD from about the 20.
The Freshman team looked especially good against the youngest Lions. Franklin scored first on the ground. Buffalo answered with solid drives anchored by Logan Jones, Brendan Smith, and Trent Martin. Jones sprinted around the end and outran the Franklin secondary to the endzone. Smith dragged defenders and ran for a 35-yard TD and Martin pounded in another up the middle.

Head Coach Mark Read summed up, “I thought we did a good job of moving the football. The offensive live executed very well in the 70-yard TD drive.” He reported that the Bison have a few sprains and bruises, but for the most part they are healthy heading into the season openers.
THIS WEEK... The JV men will be at Bremond on Thursday, August 26 while the Freshmen will host Teague. Both games will kick off at 6:00 p.m. The Varsity will host Bremond on Friday, with a 7:30 kickoff.
