The Lady Bison have been hard at work this week, playing almost round-theclock pre-season volleyball. BHS vs OAKWOOD On Tuesday, the BHS varsity girls hosted the young Lady Panthers of Oakwood. More ... BHS squeezed in an extra opponent on Tuesday, hosting three Grapeland teams. The Varsity girls gave the Maidens a thrilling, grueling match that went to five games. BHS fell behind 3-9 in Game One on errors, but Reagan Read and Kelsey Canady led a rally for a 25-23 win. Game Two was close throughout, but GHS won 18-25. More ... Three teams of Bison -- Varsity, JV and Freshmen -- travelled to Franklin on Thursday afternoon to wrap up two-a-days with a final pre-season scrimmage. More ... Last week’s scrimmage between Oakwood High School and Tyler’s King’s Academy was cancelled to honor the memory of Coach Steve Davis. OHS football resumes on August 28 when the Panthers travel to Axle Christian to play Fort Worth Nazarene at 1:30. More ... The Cougars scrimmaged the state ranked Sandies on August 20th and only allowed 2 scores as they held their own in the match. Coach Sitton said “Our offense was able to move the ball although we didn’t score and with the exception of 2 big plays our defense played well”. The team showed vast improvement from the first scrimmage against Trinity. More ... The Lady Cougars suffered their first loss at the hands of 5A powerhouse A & M Consolidated on August 17th but rebounded to win the Leon tournament on August 19th through August 21st to push their season record to 15- 1. Consolidated went deep in the 5A playoffs last year and has a front line of players over 6 feet and a freshman that is 6’5”. More ... As an end of the summer project, the Oakwood Junior High and High School Cheerleaders freshened up the blue painted Panther paw prints that you see on the sidewalks of the OHS campus. These paw prints show the way from the cafeteria, the main build- ing, the administration building, and the gyms. They also are just a fun way of showing team spirit. Go Big Blue! More ... The Tigers hosted Huntsville on August 17th and swept the match 25-14, 25-20, and 25-9. Huntsville is a 4A team but the Tigers had little trouble against the much larger school. More ... The Centerville Tigers tangled with Normangee on Thursday, August 19 in a controlled scrimmage and showed definite improvement on both sides of the ball. The Tigers were able to move the ball and with the exception of two big plays the defense played solid. The Tigers have two big running backs in Jonathan Cloud and Jamal High that will present problems for the opposition this fall. More ...
